The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has asked farmers and livestock breeders to follow safety guidelines amid volatile weather patterns, WAM reported.

In a statement, ADAFSA outlined measures to shelter crops and animals from heavy rain and strong winds. Farmers were told to clear water drainage channels, secure tools and equipment, and check structures for damage.

Livestock should be kept in barns during storms with access to food and water. Feed stocks must be safely stored to prevent moisture damage.

Greenhouses require attention to reduce humidity and block dust. Ventilation, fencing integrity and functioning electrical systems are important to monitor.

Drainage near greenhouses should be clear to avoid waterlogging. Agricultural work inside during storms risks worker safety and should be suspended.

Crops may need preventative fungicides after rain to tackle diseases. ADAFSA recommends seeking support from their guidance centres or veterinary clinics if required.

“By following these guidelines, farmers and livestock breeders can minimise the risks associated with severe weather and protect their livelihoods,” the statement added.
