Cyprus sets focus on niche markets

The Cypriot tourism industry is ready for Middle East visitor numbers to skyrocket in 2007/8, as targeted marketing campaigns sweep the region.

Meanwhile Gulf investors continue to pour money into tourist projects in Cyprus, further luring Arab visitors, according to HE Antonis Michaelides, the country's Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, who visited the UAE recently.

Michaelides was accompanied on his visit by Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) chairman Panos Englezos, who said the Cypriot tourism industry was already gearing up for an increase in the number of visitors from the region.

"The market in the region is as widely diverse as the people and cultures living and working in it," he said. "Therefore we have made a point to market Cyprus accordingly to each population segment."
