Poor driving, being away from home and long working hours are major causes of stress in Dubai, according to Dubai Herbal and Treatment Centre. Many people are working in excess of 12 hours a day, 6 days a week on a regular basis and this, combined with tight deadlines, is putting people under more and more pressure.
“According to the World Health Organisation, up to 60% of all sick days taken are due to people suffering from stress related symptoms in the European region, and I feel the situation is even worse here in Dubai” says Dr Maria Ridao Alonso of Dubai Herbal and Treatment Centre.
The body is adept at dealing with short bursts of stress, but serious health problems can occur if stress continues over a prolonged period of time. Indicators or symptoms of stress can be minor, but can become quite severe.
They can start with something as simple as a person continuously feeling tired. If the condition develops, however, people can end up suffering concentration and memory problems, insomnia, pains, eczema, acidity and ulcers. An ‘invisible’ sign of stress is high blood pressure, which, left unchecked, can lead to heart attacks and strokes.
Dubai Herbal and Treatment Centre urges patients to take symptoms seriously and go for treatment before they develop into major concerns. The Centre uses numerous alternative strategies to fight stress, including traditional Chinese medicine.
“At Dubai Herbal and Treatment Centre, we use herbal medicine, acupuncture, tuina massage and Tai Qi to achieve this balance, and also give dietary advice that can also aid in keeping a healthy body,” says Dr Alonso.
Dubai Herbal and Treatment Centre has called upon employers to take better care of their staff. Doing so, it says, can increase their productivity and effectiveness.
