Dell dives into SMB market with low cost NAS boxes

With e-business causing a data explosion, there is a growing need for storage solutions. Now Dell is opening up the SMB market with its latest NAS machines.

E-business has generated an explosion of data, that has many organisations scrambling around trying to manage and secure mission critical business data. The problem is particularly acute in the small to medium business segment, where few businesses have the skills or financial resources to invest heavily in storage.

Dell’s PowerVault network attached storage (NAS) range intends to simplify storage for the small to medium businesses and distributed computing environments within an enterprise.

The product family boosts a number of features to ease the deployment and management of the storage infrastructure.

Topping the range is the 735N, a mid-range NAS machine, which Dell executives claim can be set up in 15 minutes and managed through a browser. The hardware vendor is also touting the scalability of the 735N saying that IT managers will be able to expand storage capacity online while and enabling access to necessary business data.

Alongside the 735N, Dell also unveiled two entry-level NAS boxes; 701N and a capacity upgrade to the 705N.

"This family of NAS products provides our customers with the ability to easily add or increase the storage capability of their networks and provide the ease-of-use and price/performance benefits for which Dell is known, " said Tejas Vakil, vice president, enterprise business, Dell EMEA.

"The PowerVault 735N, built on Dell's industry-leading server platform and powered by Microsoft Windows technologies, offers businesses a highly reliable, flexible storage system that will grow to meet their changing data requirements,” he added.
