Dell launches E-series for Digital Nomads

New Latitude notebook line designed for 'digital nomads' with enhanced security and battery life up to 19 hours

In an exclusive event hosted in San Francisco and London yesterday, Dell launched a new line of Latitude and Precision laptops that were inspired by the company’s collaboration with nearly 4,000 professionals and end users.

“The new Latitude laptops and Dell Precision mobile workstations represent the largest client product development effort in the history of Dell,” said Jeff Clarke, senior vice president, Dell Product Group.

The new series reflects Dell’s collaboration with customers, meeting four important needs. “One; they asked us - I want my notebook to run all day. Two; I want you to be able to protect my sensitive information. Three, I want great design and lastly, I want it to be simple to deploy and manage these assets when I buy them.”

The new range has been designed to provide exceptional battery life with claims of up to 19 hours from two batteries. Most notably, it’s the first business-class laptop with an intelligent backlit keyboard that automatically adjusts to ambient light levels.

Dell says it is also the greenest range of laptops the company has ever released, with low power consumption modes, more environmentally friendly components and recyclable packaging.

For the first time, Dell is offering a choice of colors for Latitude laptops, including red, black, blue and pink, to enhance its sleek design.

The range also comes with a security subprocessor, with its own dedicated storage, which will allow users to keep sensitive security data separated from the normal storage devices.

All of the new products are also available with Dell’s ProSupport Mobility Services; a suite of modular services that help companies protect assets and data.

At the launch, the company also previewed Dell Latitude ON – an ‘always on’ technology that offers access to e-mail, attachments and the internet without booting into the system’s main operating system (OS). The technology is expected to be fully revealed in the coming months.

In line with the news, Dell also launched a community site called Digital Nomads where members can share ideas, tips and best practices to provide a greater insight into this user community.

The new E-series Latitude range from Dell includes:

Ultra-portable: Expected to be available in the coming weeks, the Dell Latitude E4200 is a 12.1 inch laptop that starts at 1.0 kg, which makes it the lightest commercial notebook in the company’s history. It’s also the first notebook offering a halogen-free motherboard and shipping in packaging that is up to 99% recyclable by weight.

The slightly heavier 13.3-inch Latitude E4300 is designed for executives who demand maximum performance and light weight.

Mainstream: The Dell Latitude E6400 and E6500, which is now available, are 14.1 and 15.4 inch laptops. The E6500 is the only laptop with both a contact-less Smart Card reader and a fingerprint reader that complies with Federal Information Processing Standards.

Essential: The 14.1 inch Latitude E5400 starts at £469 and the 15.4 inch E5500. Currently available in the market, these products are cost-effective and keep productivity in mind.

Semi-Rugged: Expected to be made available next week, the Latitude E6400 ATG is a 14.1 inch semi-rugged laptop that is built and tested to meet military standards for dust, vibration and humidity.

No specific pricing details for any of the products for the Middle East region were made immediately available.
