Digital Production Middle East set to raise the bar

This month marks the launch of the region's first dedicated broadcast, media and production industry website, Digital Production Middle East.

This month marks the launch of the region's first dedicated broadcast, media and production industry website, Digital Production Middle East.

The launch of the site not only represents a significant milestone for the industry, but also a major vote of confidence in its long-term commercial potential.

Featuring daily news, features, industry comment and insightful analysis, the website, which is located at www.digitalproductionme.com, will serve to raise the profile of the region's broadcast and production industry internationally. It will also showcase the depth and breadth of professionalism and talent that has transformed the sector in recent years.

In the longer term, our aim is to establish the website as the number one industry resource, not only for professionals based in the region, but also for international film and television production companies, new media specialists and technology suppliers looking to do business in the Middle East.

Hollywood and Bollywood producers, Western media giants and associated content developers have been flocking to these shores of late, lured by the prospect of free trade opportunities, a commercially-minded regulatory environment and an ambitious local production industry looking to make its mark internationally.

This trend is only set to continue, particularly given the Middle East's youthful consumer demographic and financial liquidity, the latter of which remains strong even despite diminished oil prices.

The launch of Digital Production Middle East also marks a significant expansion in the interests of ITP Business' Broadcast & Media Group, which in addition to Digital Broadcast, publishes market-leading titles Sound & Stage and Digital Studio.

As well as featuring regular content sourced from each of these titles, Digital Production Middle East will act as a conduit linking the vertical markets covered by each publication, while also addressing new markets that have evolved from these sectors.

The website will also provide you, our valued readers, with the opportunity to provide feedback and comment; not only regarding the articles we publish, but also the recurring challenges you face working in an industry that continues to evolve at an unprecedented rate.

While 2008 was undoubtedly a bumper year for the industry as a whole, the next 12 months are shaping as a defining period in its development, given the current global economic challenges reaching these shores.

In this sense, the website will undoubtedly become a vital tool in the dissemination and analysis of international industry trends and their potential impact on the local market.

Aaron Greenwood is the senior group editor of ITP Publishing Group's IT, broadcast & communications magazines.
