Dubai Municipality is building additional facilities worth US $16.8 million (AED61.6 million) in sports clubs across the city.

Dubai Municipality is building additional facilities worth US $16.8 million (AED61.6 million) in sports clubs across the city.

The first project is for the construction of three swimming pools at a cost of $12.8 million in Al Wasl, Shabab and Al Nasr clubs. The facilities are expected to be ready by March 2008.

The second project, expansion of Dubai Cultural and Sports Club at a cost of $3.3 million, involves the construction of a stadium with a capacity of 3,300 spectators, changing rooms for players, entry gates, mechanical control rooms and service rooms. Completion of this project is expected by June 2008.

The third project involves installation of electronic scoreboards for basketball, volleyball and handball games at Al Wasl, Al Nasr, Al Ahli and Al Shabab clubs.

The $700,000 electronic scoreboards will be 660cm long and 230cm wide and will be installed in line with international rules and regulations.

The project is expected be completed by November.
