The state-owned Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) will help establish a UAE affiliate of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE).

The energy department at the DMCC will attract members to the UAE affiliate, with the aim of establishing a national network of energy professionals. The group's activities will focus on a series of lectures by global energy experts each year, as well as providing networking opportunities.

"The DMCC's role will be to function as a secretariat for the non-profit association," said Tilak Doshi, executive director of energy at the DMCC.

The IAEE is an international non-profit organisation, whose members include business, government, academic and other professionals working in the energy sector.

It was set up with a mission to advance the understanding and application of economics across all aspects of energy.

"A substantial energy knowledge base is developing in the UAE, as more and more energy companies make the country their regional headquarters," said Ahmed bin Sulayem, executive chairman of the DMCC.

The DMCC will be sending out membership invitations to its clients with an interest in energy economics. "Our focus will be on holding a series of lectures and panel discussions with prominent global and regional speakers and experts from the industry, academia and government," added Doshi. "We will also organise social functions that will give networking opportunities to all energy sector professionals who have a professional interest in energy economics."
