Do job applications ever get a response?

\n

Dear editor,

Is the job market in the UAE settling down?

Many people have been pondering this question now. Of course, there

is no dearth of job aspirants across the world here in Dubai.

Everyday newspapers carry advertisements to satisfy their needs.

But is anyone getting a job from them? The hardcore truth is that hardly

anyone gets a reply from the companies who place these ads.

This is not just a passing comment or just a personal experience.

It's personal and the story of many other many job aspirants.

A regular cafè-goer job hunter said this was not the situation last

year. According to him it was a time when almost every application got a

response.

For the past few weeks I have been busy job hunting. On the first

day it was anguish for me for not realising the vast opportunity lying

in the newspapers. And I cursed myself for staying on in a crammed

office where there was no dignity for employees.

Waking up early (which the body is accustomed to through years of

routine), scanning through the opportunity pages of newspapers,

selecting and grading vacancies, spending hours in internet cafès,

sending CVs, hopefully looking for a reply, either positive or negative,

but all in vain.

And why should they reply? Is it their duty to give a jobless

person an opportunity? Or am I not worth giving a job to? I wonder who

is getting these jobs? Or are newspapers just selling their space for

money?

Do you know of any companies or agencies that are looking for very experienced people, especially in the television, production area - any help would be very much appreciated.  Thankyou
