Doha Bank customers were left unable to withdraw money or pay for purchases with their debit cards for more than 15 hours on Wednesday due to a technical fault.

Customers reported that service was disrupted from Tuesday evening, and at 3pm the following day the bank tweeted that it was still working on fixing the problem.

“Dear Valued Customers,” it said. “We apologize for the inconvenience. We are working towards resolving the system related problem ASAP.”

The system error came at a particularly problematic time for many Qatar residents who are paid at the end of the month and need access to their accounts.

One resident told Gulf Times: “I was inconvenienced because my salary was credited only today. Because of month-end, I did not have much cash either. My Doha Bank cards did not go through at the POS [point of service] in a leading hypermarket today.”

However, the bank posted a message on its website on Thursday morning confirming that the technical glitch had been fixed.

It said: “We are glad to inform you that all the technical problems have been resolved. All Doha Bank Credit /Debit Cards, ATMs, POS Terminals, Online and Mobile Banking are live and running perfectly. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.”

It is unclear what caused the system error.
