The road system will link to the new causeway being built between Qatar and Bahrain.
The Doha Expressway will be completed by the end of the year as part of a five-year transport plan, an official announced on Wednesday
Mohamed Ali Yousef Darwish, a senior engineering consultant at Ashgal, which is constructing the road system, said the first phase of the North Relief road had already been finished and the second phase was currently on target.
Preparations were now being made for the third part of the expressway, which will stretch from the north road to Zubara - from where the causeway to Bahrain will start, he added.
Darwish was giving an overview of Ashghal’s project portfolio at Qatar Projects 2009, which was reported in Qatar daily Gulf Times.
To make undertaking of works in the country more attractive to contractors Ashghal had given permission to import materials without any restriction, made quicker payments and released cash reserves.
Steps had also been taken to control the price of raw materials and facilitating availability of them by increasing capacity of plants, Darwish added.
