Qatar’s Urban Planning Development Authority (UPDA) is to host the fourth GCC Environment Meet in Doha in April.

Qatar's Urban Planning Development Authority (UPDA) is to host the fourth GCC Environment Meet in Doha in April.

The event, which will be attended by urban planning experts from around the region, will examine the challenges of urban development and environmental preservation in the region.

"Urbanisation is considered as one of the most powerful forces challenging the goals of sustainability prospects in these days. Considering that, the convergence of population growth and urban expansion lead to great challenges to reach the objectives of urban sustainability," Ali Abdullah Al Fudhaily, UPDA assistant director-general for planning, said.

Themes discussed are expected to include eco-city concepts, recycling and the use of eco-friendly building materials.
