Dot Travel domain name announces Middle East forum

Key representatives of the Middle East and North African travel and tourism industry are being urged to attend a three-day forum to discuss the benefits of signing-up to the new Dot Travel (.travel) domain name.

Key representatives of the Middle East and North African travel and tourism industry are being urged to attend a three-day forum to discuss the benefits of signing-up to the new Dot Travel (.travel) domain.

New York-headquartered Tralliance Corporation, the Dot Travel Registry, has joined forces with Egyptian travel organisation, Emeco Travel, to stage the conference in Cairo from June 21-23, in a bid to identify how the MENA region can use Dot Travel to more effectively market its products and services globally.

It is hoped the region’s tourism ministries, associations and large travel organisations will attend the event, where Ahmed El Khadem, chairman, the Egyptian Tourism Authority, will be one of the keynote speakers.

“It’s about association and tourism ministry leadership. We will advise leaders on Dot Travel and how they can take it back to their own nation and apply it there,” explained Ron Andruff, president and chief executive, Tralliance Corporation. Some 20,000 travel and tourism-related organisations, businesses and individuals worldwide, have registered for a Dot Travel domain name since it was officially launched on January 29.

Potential registrants must first apply for domain name eligibility through an authenticator at www.travel.travel, and once verified, they can register their Dot Travel domain names through the registry’s registrars.

They must then enter their company’s profile onto the Dot Travel Directory found at www.directory.travel, which, unlike most search engines, distributes company, product and service information corresponding to each query by performing concept or co-related searches. Directory information is shown in 10 languages, including Arabic.

“The directory will bring registrants much more incremental business. If you are looking for a five-star property in Dubai, it will show you all the five-star properties in Dubai registered, as well as the travel agents and tour operators who can book them for you,” explained Andruff.
