DRC promotes kids’ fitness

Dubai Refreshments Company hosts Pepsi Sports Fiesta, a three-week school sports event.

Dubai Refreshments Company (DRC), PEPSI Co last month hosted the fifth edition of its Pepsi Sports Fiesta, a sports event for schools in the UAE.

The company also extended its long-standing partnership with Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), signing on as a key sponsor of the event for the thirteenth year.

The three-week Pepsi Sports Fiesta, which is held at Dubai's Safa Park and includes basketball and football tournaments for schools, was first held during DSF in 2003 during DSF, according to marketing events executive for DRC Mae Hillawi. "Now in its fifth year, the event has become a regular fixture on the DSF activity calendar, attracting thousands of spectators every year," she added.

"The event is for the youth of Dubai, to ensure they get to demonstrate their sporting abilities in a fun and competitive environment. It's all about fair play, team spirit, and encouraging a healthy lifestyle based on sports," added DRC CEO Alan Salem.

"We had 68 Dubai schools competing, along with outside players forming their own teams," said Salem.

"Dubai Refreshments Company has enjoyed a strong association with DSF since its inception and our aim is to grow the Pepsi Sports Fiesta and make it one of the biggest youth sporting events in Dubai. Next year we expect to have additional big multinational name joining in on all the excitement and taking the Fiesta to a completely new level," he concluded.
