Dream TV opts for Omneon servers

Installed at the Nilesat earth station adjoining the Media City complex outside Cairo, the Spectrum server system allows the privately owned network to broadcast Dream 1 and Dream 2 programming from a shared playout platform.

Egypt’s Dream TV has opted to use an Omneon Spectrum media server system for playout of two channels. Installed at the Nilesat earth station adjoining the Media City complex outside Cairo, the Spectrum server system allows the privately owned network to broadcast Dream 1 and Dream 2 programming from a shared playout platform.

“The Omneon Spectrum server system provides our playout operations with a reliable and scalable solution capable of accommodating future growth,” said Aly Mostafa, director of engineering, Dream TV. “Our Dream1 and Dream 2 networks feature a broad range of popular productions and live programming, and with the Spectrum system in place, we can be confident of continuous delivery of a high-quality television signal.”

Dream 1 features videos targeted to younger viewing audiences, sports and variety programs, while Dream 2 produces cultural programs, contemporary videos, films featuring Arab and international actors, and Arabic drama series. The Omneon server system on which broadcast content resides is installed in leased facilities at Nilesat, which also serves as the transmission facility for both channels.

The Omneon Spectrum media server is designed to provide a reliable and scalable server infrastructure for broadcast playout and storage applications. The system supports a broad variety of third-party applications for control and transmission, media management, archiving, and collaborative production.
