Drugs haul seized by Dubai customs

More than two million tablets seized in routine check of Cargo Village

Drugs haul seized by Dubai customs
Inspectors found 27 cartons containing 2.16 million tablets of narcotics and weighing almost one tonne, 235kg.

More
than two million narcotics tablets were seized by Dubai Customs inspectors during
a routine check of the emirate’s Cargo Village, a holding facility adjacent to
Dubai International Airport.

The
drugs had been imported from an unnamed Asian country, to be delivered to a local
company not licensed to import pharmaceuticals, Dubai Customs said in a
statement.

Legal
procedures will be taken against the owner of the company and the goods.

"During the routine operations of examining bills of entry, the
description of the goods in the customs declaration was suspected. The
consignment was detained,” Omar Ahmed Aluhairi, senior manager of Dubai Customs
Air Cargo Operation, told state news agency WAM.
