The Soothing Summer Cocoon manicure and pedicure promises nourishment. Find out if it delivers
Summer in the UAE can dry out skin and nails. Combine sunny hot weather with indoor air conditioning, and you have a recipe for extreme dryness.
So when we heard that ladies’ beauty salon Tips & Toes was offering a healing manicure and pedicure treatment, we had to try it out.
The Soothing Summer Cocoon treatment promises to nourish dry, sunburnt, and irritated skin. We headed to the salon’s Golden Mile branch on the Palm Jumeirah to find out if that’s the case.
Greeted by friendly staff, we walked into the spacious nail treatment area - situated beside a similarly large hairdressing zone –
and designed in polished wooden floors and red and purple cushioned reclining chairs.
There was something cosy about the décor and soothing spa-like music in the background, but we thought it had more to do with the thoughtful (or just highly well-trained) nail technicians who adjusted our pillows to make sure we’re comfortable and took their time to perfect the first part of our treatment: cutting the cuticles, shaping the nails and smoothing the ridges.
Next, we were treated to a hand and foot sugar scrub (which smelled amazing thanks to its almond oil) to exfoliate and remove dry and flaky skin. Our arms and lower legs were then coated in a detoxifying mud treatment and wrapped to allow nutrients to be absorbed.
Once the wrap was rinsed and a deep moisturising lotion applied, we felt the difference in our skin and nails. They felt smoother and looked calmer and more nourished.
While the effect of the treatment only lasted a few days – you need to keep skin and nails regularly moisturised - if you’re suffering from dryness and irritated skin during summer, you could benefit from the added scrub and wrap as opposed to going for a regular manicure/pedicure which does not include them.
The Soothing Summer Cocoon treatment is priced at AED 205 and is available across the salon’s 27 branches in the UAE.For all the latest health and fitness news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
