Regulatory Authority has announced that the telecom operator Etisalat and new operator du reached an agreement on matters relating to interconnectivity.

By the agreement, the two operators confirmed their networks can exchange calls and obtain mutual telecom services. The agreement followed a year of discussion and necessitated collaborations on numerous technical, operational, commercial, legal and regulatory issues.

Osman Sultan, CEO of du, said, “The interconnection agreement marks an important milestone for the UAE’s telecom industry. It is a necessary pre-condition for the launch of our mobile services. In addition, one of the most significant outcomes is that it will allow du to offer fixed line calling services across the UAE in a phased manner in 2007.”
