Maktoob.com has expanded its Web services by adding an online auction to its site with the view to attracting both individual and business customers.
The Arabic virtual community portal, Maktoob.com, has added a new service to its portfolio with the launch of an online auction facility.
The new service, MazadMaktoob, will provide customers with an alternative Internet shopping platform in both English and Arabic. Maktoob claims it is the first dual-nationality auction service and says that it will serve equally business and personal trade. “Participating companies are immediately guaranteed an online consumer base of 600,000 registered members, growing at an average rate of 2,000 per day,” said Samih Toukan, managing partner of Maktoob.com.
Maktoob claims that the web site, www.mazadmaktoob.com, is completely secure, allowing customers to place bids with confidence. It uses the Verisign online credit card processing system. It also provides personal user pages and an interactive feedback tool that allows users to rate their trading counterparts.
Potential buyers can place their bids within a specific time period and ultimately the item will go to the highest bidder. It costs nothing to place a bid online, whereas sellers must pay commission in the event of a sale. “We are confident that MazadMaktoob would appeal not only to individuals, but also to businesses worldwide,” said Ronaldo Mouchawar, project director of MazadMaktoob.
