Company: Dubai Holding
Designation: Head of tourism and hospitality
Gerald Lawless joined Dubai Holding as head of tourism and hospitality in 2016 after having spent 18 years as the CEO of Jumeirah Group. He advises the investment conglomerate on its strategic tourism and hospitality projects. The Irishman is credited with the expansion of Jumeirah Group’s portfolio, which includes 22 hotels in ten destinations and over 100 restaurants from London to Shanghai. Before joining Jumeirah in 1997, he held a 23-year long career with Forte Hotels.
In an interview with Arabian Business in March 2016, Lawless said a decision by the Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum 15 years ago to introduce visas-on-arrival into the emirate for 30 countries has played an important role in Dubai’s tourism success story.
