Dubai Airport access to be improved

Good news for Dubai motorists as roads authority seeks to solve massive congestion problems.

The road network around Dubai International Airport is being targeted for improvements in a project by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The scheme on the airport road includes the provision of an additional entry point for motorists driving from Al Rashidiya towards the airport car park while another direct entry point will be provided to serve motorists driving from Deira towards the parking zone, UAE daily Gulf News reported on Thursday.

Improvement projects also include proper utilisation of the area in front of Terminal 1, which faces massive congestion especially during peak hours.

The existing entry point to the airport for motorists coming from Deira will also be widened.

The RTA will also launch a project to improve Al Diyafa Road to ease traffic congestion.

Improvements also include widening the access point of the Trade Centre interchange for traffic coming from Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Road.

This initiative is long overdue. Approach roads to Dubai airport get extremely clogged every night causing delays and resultant impatience to motorists. I have personally experienced great inconvenience over the last one year. I live in Bur Dubai and have no problem in crossing Garhoud Bridge in less than 20 minutes. But thereafter it sometimes takes me more than 90 minutes in reaching the airport. I have nearly missed my flights on two occasions. At this stretch the drivers are invariably impatient and tend to drive recklessly in order to beat the traffic jam. It has become so bad that I prefer to use Abu Dhabi airport if convenient alternative flights are available from there. It has become impossible to cope with the traffice near the airport at late evenings. I hope RTA takes necessary measures sooner than later.

I think this matter will be done soon, Once Jebel Ali Airport (AL Maktoom International Airport) will be open offically Dubai Airport will be operated only by Emirates Airline which will make most of the traffic move to Jebel Ali. For now RTA can do nothing about Airport road, nor the Police, except that the police can fine these crazy people which making the traffic bad for not driving safely, or causing this traffic for wrong parking at the airport and so on
