A Syrian policeman was among the gamblers at the venue in JBR
A Dubai court has jailed 16 men, including a Syrian policeman, of operating or taking part in an illegal casino based in Jumeirah Beach Residence, it was reported.
The casino, which was named ‘Volcano’, has been shut down and 30 gambling machines were confiscated, according to a report by the Sharjah-based The Gulf Today newspaper.
Four men, including an Uzbek salesman, a Bangladeshi salesman, an Emirati pensioner and an unemployed Emirati were convicted for operating the illegal gambling den.
Twelve customers were also jailed for three months and included a Bahraini engineer, an Egyptian investor, an Egyptian driver, an Emirati employee, two public relations clerks, a Jordanian, a Comorian and six Syrians, including a police officer.
The 16 were arrested following a sting operation where undercover Dubai police officers attended the venue posing as potential customers.
Oh no! Someone is trying to steal the idea from the Gouvernment. Who wants to beat that a casino will be in Dubai (at sea) before 2015. Who will cash on it? Uhm!!!
