Dubai Municipality has launched a campaign to crack down on people who are violating the UAE law that prohibits smoking in public places.

The civic organisation said it it taking further steps to implement the UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 24 of 2013, concerning the prohibition and control of tobacco use in public places for the public interest.

The move comes as a result of violations being reported from different parts of the emirate of breaches in the rules of smoking in public places, Dubai Municipality said in a statement run by official news agency WAM.

The Municipality called on "all members of the community and concerned parties to cooperate with the implementation of the resolution as required, with the aim of building a healthy and safe community and a clean environment, free of tobacco toxins".

Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director of the Municipality, said the civic body is implementing the federal law as part of its "social responsibility in preserving public health".

I saw a man standing outside a shop with his daughter, in Dubai Mall, smoking a cigarette IN THE MALL. Then throws it to the ground, stamps it out with his foot and walks in the store! Noone said or did anything!
The worst was waiting at the far opposite end of where the e-gate (is or used to be) while arriving into customs at Dubai Airport terminal 3 and seeing an employee (in khandura) of the airport, sitting in a chair in the office at the final customs desk to the right...smoking a cigarette in plain view of all of the arriving passengers. First of all....really nice welcoming sight! Also, he was smiling like "what can you do about it". Ban smoking in all public places. At least you don't need to stand in -25 C like I had to do in Canada. When I smoked (for 25 years) I still preferred to not smoke around children and nonsmokers, like people here seem to not even consider it seems. Shisha is worse and with kids at the tables sucking all that in and little ventilation if any.
