Dubai Customs foils bid to smuggle $804,000 in fake bills
Staff found 8,040 fake $100 notes along with 2,300 notes ready for counterfeiting

Dubai Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle $804,000
(AED2.9m) of fake $100 notes through Dubai International Airport,

The counterfeit cash was carried by a European passenger who
arrived at Terminal 3 with a tourist visa, state news agency WAM said.

Ali Al Mugahwi, director of the airport’s Passengers
Operations Department, said the man had aroused suspicion as he looked anxious.

Staff who checked his bag found 8,040 fake $100 notes along
with 2,300 notes ready for counterfeiting.

The passenger, a first-time visitor to Dubai, said unidentified
persons in a European country had asked him to take the cash to a local hotel,
where it would be collected.

“Dubai Customs makes great efforts to combat all kinds of
smuggling, including the smuggling of fake currency which has a negative effect
on the UAE economy," Al Mugahwi said.

The man has been handed over to Dubai airport police for
prosecution.
