Dubai Customs seize 80 heroin capsules

Two passengers caught attempting to smuggle capsules through airport hidden in their stomachs.

Dubai Customs on Sunday confirmed that inspectors have foiled two separate bids to smuggle a total of 80 heroin capsules through Dubai International Airport. The first attempt was aborted when a customs inspector at the Passengers Operations Department at the Airport - Terminal 2, suspected an Asian passenger while he was on his way to pick up his luggage. The passenger appeared hesitant to take his bags and aroused the inspector's suspicions.

When the passenger was examined neither X-ray detectors nor a manual search of his luggage revealed anything suspicious. However, when taken to a body scan machine, suspicious substances were spotted in his stomach.

After further examination and investigation the passenger broke down and confessed to hiding 50 heroin capsules in his body.

The second passenger, having aroused similar suspicions, was also examined by the body scan machine and subsequently found to have 30 tablets of heroin in his body.

The two passengers were arrested and transferred to the General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police.

Arabian Business: why we're going behind a paywall

Ali 11 years ago

The people involved in this business are traders of death. It is not understandable why very lenient penalties are given to the criminals being caught with drugs. These people should desrve no mercy as they are ultimately destroying the whole society. I appeal to Govt to publically hang or execute dug convicts as is being done in China,Saudia & Iran.
