Saraya Bandar Jissah, the company developing Oman's $600 million tourism complex, has announced that construction work has started on the resort hotel with a OR30 million ($77.9 million) contract awarded.
Leighton Middle East Contracting, the local arm of Habtoor Leighton Group, has been appointed for the hotel construction, a statement said.
HLG will be responsible for carrying out all civil works, MEP work and finishes. This will also include infrastructure preparation and landscaping, it added.
"Saraya Bandar Jissah is pleased to be working with HLG who has delivered quality projects throughout the region. We look forward to a successful work partnership to deliver this flagship property," said Sheikh Hamood Al Hosni, CEO of Saraya Bandar Jissah.
The 5-star hotel will be operated by Jumeirah Group, the Dubai-based luxury hotels and resorts operator.
Atkins will serve as the supervision consultants, managing the progress of the construction work on site, the statement said.
This hotel project, part of the first construction phase along with the boutique hotel, recreational facilities and residential neighborhoods, will be completed in 2017. The two hotels will together form the major leisure components of Saraya Bandar Jissah.
José Antonio López-Monís, HLG CEO and managing director, said: "This is our first contract with Saraya Bandar Jissah and we are proud to be selected as the main contractor to deliver what will be a flagship hotel in the region."
The resort hotel features 206 rooms and world-class facilities and services such as a beachfront ballroom for weddings and events, spa, sports activities including a dive centre, and specialty restaurants offering various international cuisines.
Saraya Bandar Jissah is located on the outskirts of Muscat on a unique secluded beach surrounded by the Hajar Mountains.
The destination will be built on 2.2 million square metres of land with an expansive beachfront and a high point of 250 metres.
Saraya Bandar Jissah, an integrated tourism complex supported by the Government of Oman and one of the global luxurious destinations offered by Saraya, will be home to exclusive residential units, two 5-star beachfront hotels and a recreational area.
