More than 2,000 blue-collar workers enter annual talent contest; 14 finalists to battle for top prize on April 22
A talent contest for more than 2,000 blue-collar performers working in Dubai will hold its 2016 final later this month.
Smart Idol, established in 2012 as an annual talent contest organised by SMART LIFE for workers living in the emirate's many labour camps, will see 14 finalists compete for the top prize.
The shortlist of performers, who are trained and mentored by industry professionals, are split into singing and dancing categories, with the final of Smart Idol on April 22.
Kalyan Chakravarthy, creative director of SMART LIFE, said: “Smartidol offers opportunities for our region's most hardworking blue collared community to come on stage and showcase their raw talent... which enables them to get a chance to live out their dreams."
Chakravarthy said Smart Idol 2015 winner Biji Mol, who is a bus conductor at a local school in Dubai, has been actively performing at events around the region since his success.
And Smart Idol 2014 winner Ejaaz Ahmed was transformed from a restaurant delivery boy to a playback singer for ZEE TV. He now sings professionally.
