Dubai Metro safety system put to test

RTA delegation visits Canadian factory to witness vital safety components put through rigorous trials.

A delegation from Dubai has been to Canada to see vital safety components for the city's Metro system being put through their paces.

A team of senior rail officials from Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority visited a factory in Toronto, to witness the testing of the Automatic Train Control System which will play an important part in the operation of the Dubai Metro rolling stock.

Adnan Al Hammadi, director of Rail Projects Construction said: "All the ATC functions require thorough review and testing. There were a huge number of tests performed.

"The tests cover real scenarios of train control and different expertise were involved to conduct the tests."

The first build of the ATC software should be deployed for the Dubai Test Track this month, he added.

The subsystems being tested include the Vehicle Control Centre (VCC), System Management Centre (SMC), Vehicle On Board Controller (VOBC) and Station Controller (STC).
