Dubai pizzeria's world first for food ordering

New VIP Fridge Magnet technology allows customers to order food by simply pushing button

Dubai pizzeria's world first for food ordering

A pizzeria in Dubai is trialling a new gadget which allows customers to order from home by simply pressing a button on a fridge magnet.

Red Tomato Pizza in Dubai has simplified the convenience factor, making ordering take-out food practically effortless.

The magnet, called the VIP Fridge Magnet, is a pizza box shaped magnet and has a direct connection to the pizzeria.

All a customer has to do is push the button, this triggers a connection to the internet via Bluetooth on a smartphone.

Red Tomato Pizza sends a confirmation text and proceeds to deliver the order, according to reports in technology magazines. It also gives the customer the option to cancel.

Several years ago the ability to order food online was launched, and has become commonplace as a method for ordering take-out.

As technology progressed, this method was made even easier through use of smartphone apps, as Dominos Pizza has done.

More than 70 percent of magnet owners are already repeat customers, said Red Tomato which added that it is now out of magnets and has ordered more.

It didn't say how many have actually been sold.

“In Dubai, everyone wants everything delivered,” restaurant owner Rehan Shah told TODAY.com.

"When we heard about the idea from our marketing agency, we knew right away it would work for our customers. In a short amount of time, we have been amazed at its popularity. This small magnet has put our brand in a new position."

It's not quite clear how this gadget works. Sounds like it's just a marketing scam.. Instead of concentrating on the quality of their food, these guys just focus on these things, and that's how they think they can justify a price hike of 10dhs per pizza.. Well, goodbye RT, there are so many better pizza places out there, no need for you guys..

I don't know about the gadget..interesting marketing gimmick though.

However I find that Red Tomato has the best Pizza in town.
Almost every time I eat Pizza in Dubai I am dissapointed.

Red Tomato....endorse it 1000%

p.s. I have zero connection to the company..just like the Pizza

Simply wow.. so simple yet so effective. The device requires you to log in your favourite pizza in the system so each time you press the button it triggers the bluetooth in your phone to send a message to the resturant. It plays on the idea that most people usually order the same pizza over and over again. For different orders you may call or order online. The device has a flap as to protect against inadvertant orders, which even if occured could be canceled. Its revolutionary in my view just as the ipod was to discmans. Its even more heart warming for coming from the dubai, hopefully it will trigger a new wave of innovation from the region.

Dubai residents have achieved a new level of laziness. Bad enough that they have to drive for 20 minutes in a car park to wait for a spot 10 metres closer to the entrance....now they can't even pick up the phone and speak to someone. Looks like Red Tomato will be sending a lot of pizzas back from hundreds of "mis-presses". Not exactly a practical idea. Perhaps we can say that Red Tomato has a pivotal place in the downfall of civilisation.

Red Tomato makes the best pizza in town but unfortunately this new gadget won't be useful for me as I have more than one favorite pizza. The idea is good though.
