Police arrest trio for cheating customers through website
Dubai Police have issued a warning over the purchase of goods online.
Purchases should be made only from trusted trading sites, said a top police official.
It follows the arrest of three people suspected of cheating online consumers inside and outside the UAE, reported Khaleej Times.
Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation, said the suspects based in Dubai were operating a website, offering attractive deals for customers. However, after receiving the money from the customers, the traders failed to deliver the goods.
Police received a number of complaints and managed to locate the trio who operated the website before arresting them in a raid.
The suspects confessed to cheating customers by not delivering goods offered on the website after receiving money. All the three had been referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution.
Maj-Gen. Al Mansouri said the police had closed the website and officials were monitoring the site to ensure nobody else uses it.
Police are monitoring all the websites that sell goods, particularly those based in Dubai, he said.
