Dubai’s most dangerous roads have been revealed by the emirate’s police force.

After an increase in the number of fatal road accidents, Dubai Police’s Traffic Department identified spots that witnessed deaths in the second quarter of 2016.

Police said 59 fatal accidents were reported in the second quarter of 2016, compared with 42 in the corresponding period in 2015. The number of fatalities was not revealed by police.

Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road was Dubai’s most dangerous road after 14 fatal accidents in the second quarter of this year, according to Col Jamal Al Bannai, acting director of Dubai Traffic Police, reported Gulf News. The road was the site of three accidents involving deaths in 2015.

Emirates Road came second with nine, compared with none in 2015, while Sheikh Zayed Road witnessed two fatal accidents in the second quarter of 2016, compared with four in the same period in 2015. The Dubai-to-Al Ain Road saw two fatals in 2016, after four in 2015.

Police reported 35 major injuries caused by fatal accidents reported in 2016, compared with 46 in 2015. There were 198 moderate injuries, compared with 134 in 2015, and 273 minor injuries, compared with 306 in 2015.

The statistics were presented during a meeting with Dubai Police Chief Maj Gen Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina. It was held to evaluate the performance of Traffic Police Department during the second quarter of 2016.
