Officers foiled attempt to smuggle 1kg of heroin to Europe through Dubai International Airport.
Dubai Police have foiled an attempt to smuggle one kilogram of heroin to Europe through Dubai International Airport, WAM news agency reported.
Officers caught an African woman with the drugs hidden in her bag, wrapped in plastic bags and carbon papers, after a tip off.
This is the latest in a series of drug busts in the emirates and comes after the head of the anti-narcotics unit said Dubai had become a transit point for drug traffickers.
Top policeman Abdul-Jaleel Mahdi said drug hauls were up in the emirate after smugglers, who often alter transit routes, were using Dubai to ferry drugs from producing countries to Europe and East Asia.
On Saturday police in Abu Dhabi seized 734 kilograms of hashish with a street value of AED7.34m.
The police said the drugs were found in Mussafah, near Abu Dhabi, concealed in a consignment of animal fodder after its transfer from 'another member' of the UAE.
