Hackers appear to take control of police force’s social media account
An account on social media platform Twitter belonging to Dubai Police appeared to have been hacked on Sunday.
In a status update, the force’s official Twitter page read: “Dubai Police is spying on you, Isn't it fair that we the people do the same back? hacked by @TheHorsemenLulz”. At the time of writing the post had been removed.
A later update by Dubai Media Office apparently confirmed that the page had been hacked and that authorities were working to recover the account.
A separate Twitter page registered by a user called TheHorsemenLulz confirmed that it was behind the hack and claimed it had also taken control over LinkedIn and Tumblr accounts administered by Dubai Police. No motive was given for the attack.
A number of previous posts by the same account claimed that the user had previously hacked websites belonging to the UAE’s United Arab Bank and Noor Bank, as well as a university in Dubal. For all the latest tech news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
