Classic romantic destinations such as Paris and Rome were surprisingly lower down the list at numbers 12 and 14
Dubai has ranked number eight among the world’s most popular places to propose, according to data found on social media app Instagram by UK-based Avanti Jewellers.
Proposals are more public today than ever, with people sharing and ‘hashtagging’ the special moment across platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
While there are certain spots across the globe that attract thousands of couples each year, Avanti Jewellers analysed 10,000 photos posted on Instagram using the hashtags #shesaidyes #proposal #amazingproposal #beautifulproposal #ononeknee to find out the most popular locations for people to pop the question.
While frequent favourites such as New York City and Sydney came in first and second respectively, natural landmarks rather than big cities followed close after. The Grand Canyon, Machu Picchu, Niagara Falls, and Yosemite National Park all made the top ten at spots three, five, seven and ten correspondingly.
Iceland and London came in number four and six while Dubai and Venice followed at spots eight and nine.
Surprisingly, classic romantic spots such as Paris, Rome and Greece’s Santorini only made numbers 12, 14 and 17 respectively.
Avanti Jewellers’ survey also found a growing trend in travelling to faraway countries for proposals.
The brand specialises in women’s engagement and wedding rings featuring gold, platinum and palladium options with a choice of diamonds and coloured gemstones.
