VOX Cinemas, the cinema arm of Dubai-based Majid Al Futtaim, has announced the opening of the largest cinema in Oman as part of a $29 million investment in the country.
The operator made its debut in the sultanate with the opening of its 10-screen cinema at City Centre Muscat.
With 10 fully digital screens, VOX Cinemas offers Omani residents more daily movie sessions, more movie releases and more flexible timings than any other cinema in the market, the company said in a statement.
The new cinema complex includes the VOX MAX experience, which was first launched by VOX Cinemas in the UAE in 2011, which presents movies the way directors intended them to be watched - on huge screens, with crisp, digital imagery supported by state-of-the-art surround sound technology and comfortable seating.
Michelle Walsh, regional marketing director at Majid Al Futtaim - Cinemas, said: "Bringing VOX Cinemas to the Sultanate of Oman is part of our ongoing mission to enter new expanding markets with the most advanced and innovative forms of cinema entertainment, allowing our guests to enjoy the latest that Hollywood, Bollywood and Arab film industries have to offer."
Following the launch of VOX Cinemas in City Centre Muscat, a 7-screen cinema is set to open later this month in City Centre Qurum.
Dubai conglomerate Majid Al Futtaim announced plans in March to spend AED750m ($200m) on 12 new cinemas in the Gulf and Egypt.
The investment will see the company’s subsidiary VOX Cinemas operate more than 250 screens across the Middle East and North Africa region – a four-fold increase since it bought rights to the brand less than four years ago.For all the latest retail news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
