Dubai-based retailer Landmark Group is reportedly planning to open 50 new stores across the UAE by end-2015 and aims to hire an extra 2,500 staff.

The group’s total retail area in the UAE will increase from the existing 6.3 million sq ft to around eight million sq ft, according to Vipen Sethi, CEO of Landmark.

Sethi said that the company will hire at least 2,500 additional staff in the UAE before the end of next year as part of the expansion plan.

The company, which runs brands including Centrepoint, Babyshop, Splash, Shoe Mart, Max, Lifestyle, Emax and Home Centre, will increase its presence in the country to over 550 stores.

Up to half of the new stores will open in Abu Dhabi’s Yas Mall, which is scheduled to open in November, while new stores are also planned in Dubai's Tecom and Sharjah, Sethi told local media.

Yas Mall will open with more than 300 stores, growing to over 400 stores and outlets including F&B brands, a 20 screen cinema operated by VOX Cinemas, the largest hypermarket in Abu Dhabi which will be operated by Geant and a family entertainment zone.

The announcement was made at a media briefing ahead of the launch of three new stores at Dubai Festival City Mall.

Sethi said: “Strategically, growing our presence in Dubai Festival City Mall is an important step in our expansion plans in the UAE.

"With the nation gearing up to host more than 20 million visitors in 2020, the nation’s leadership has a commitment to strengthen infrastructure and upgrade tourist offerings. As a retailer catering to the masses, we also seek to simultaneously growing our presence across destination malls and community centres in strong catchment areas."
