A son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has signed up for national service, the government has announced.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, on Saturday completed enrolment procedures alongside other recruits in the fifth batch of young people to enlist to serve their country.

The enrolment took place at the national service training centre at Sieh Al Lahma military camp in Al Ain.

Sheikh Ahmed, who is chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, said military service is an opportunity for Emirati nationals to prove their loyalty towards their country, people and leadership, according to a statement from the Dubai Government Media Office.

He was quoted as saying: “It gives me great honour to stand with my fellow countrymen who have joined the national military service today.

“I want to salute them as well as all those who have rendered military service previously and those who will do so in the future in response to the call of the country to commit to safeguarding their homeland’s security and ensuring its prosperity.”

He added: “The brave men of the UAE armed forces are a source of dignity, pride and strength for us.”
