Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced the launch of the main 400kV power transformer, in addition to a number of other projects worth a total cost of AED197 million at the Hassyan Clean Coal Power Plant.
The Hassyan Clean Coal Power Plant, which will generate 2,400MW, has a planned commercial operation date of March 2023 and is the first project of its kind in the region.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA, said: "The main 400kV power transformer at Hassyan Clean Coal Power Project is part of DEWA’s continuous efforts to achieve its ambitious strategy and plans, in adherence with the highest standards of productivity, reliability and efficiency."
He said in comments published by news agency WAM that the project supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy, which aims to provide 7 percent of Dubai’s energy from clean energy sources by 2020, rising to 25 percent by 2030 and 75 percent by 2050.
"The project also aims to develop the 400 kV electricity transmission networks by connecting the substation with current electricity networks. DEWA works to build world-class energy infrastructure that meets Dubai’s development demands," he added.
Under the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which focuses on creating an environmentally-friendly energy mix, 25 percent will come from solar energy, 7 percent from nuclear power, 7 percent from clean coal, and 61 percent from gas by 2030.
