Dubai's Drake wins $51m Saudi hospital contract

Saudi unit of construction firm says it has won contract to work on Al-Dara Hospital and Medical Centre in Riyadh

Drake & Scull International has announced that one of its subsidiaries has won an AED189 million ($51.4 million) MEP contract for Al-Dara Hospital and Medical Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Drake & Scull Saudi Arabia said in a statement that the contract will start immediately and be completed by January 2016.

Under the terms of the agreement, DSI will undertake complete installation, testing & commissioning of critical MEP systems, plumbing and firefighting system, water treatment plant, medical gases system, fuel system, building management system and electrical systems for the hospital.

The 107-bed Al-Dara Hospital and Medical Centre, located close to the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, will be the city's largest outpatient centre spread over an area of 27,500 sq m.

Carillion Saudi Arabia is the main contractor of the outpatient facility, Drake said in a statement.

Ahmad Al Naser, managing director of Drake & Scull Engineering, said: "Saudi Arabia is our biggest market in the region where we are currently working on several high profile projects.

"DSI has been highly active in the healthcare sector with an aim to improve and upgrade the quality of the healthcare services in the markets where we operate."

He said the project win raises the company's total project awards to date to approximately AED5.27 billion, with new projects in the UAE, Qatar, Algeria, Jordan, India, Romania, Turkey and Egypt as well as Saudi Arabia.
