Award aims to "build bridges of cooperation between diverse cultures"
Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum, on Thursday issued a decree establishing the Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum Award for World Peace (MRAWP), the official state news agency WAM
Sheikh Mohammed, who is also UAE Vice President and
Prime Minister, also established the award’s board of trustees.
The award aims to highlight “Islam’s teachings of
peace as a doctrine that promotes harmony, tolerance and moderation, and build
bridges of cooperation between diverse cultures, thereby fortifying
international relations,” WAM reported.
The MRAWP board of trustees will include Dr. Hamad
Al Sheikh Ahmed Al Shaibani, chairman, Sultan Butti bin Mejren Al Marri, vice chairman
and the membership of Dr. Omer Mohammed Sharif Al Khateeb, Mohammed Saeed
Mohammed Al Marri, Ali Khalfan Ahmed Al Mansouri, Shamsuddin bin Mohiyuddin
Mamo, Mona Mohamed Saif Belhasa, Jamal Hamid Thani Al Marri and Jamal Saif Issa
The winner of the MRAWP will be announced at the
next Dubai International Peace Convention in 2015.
