Dubai's skyline named sixth best in the world

New Emporis list ranks Dubai's 686 skyscrapers behind Hong Kong, New York, Singapore, Moscow and Seoul

Dubai's skyline named sixth best in the world

Dubai has been named as having the world's sixth best skyline in a new global list released by real estate data management firm Emporis.

According to the list, Hong Kong, with 7,794 buildings and 133,531 points, has the world's best skyline, followed by New York City, Singapore, Moscow, and Seoul.

Dubai's 686 buildings ranked by the list were awarded 20,642 points, putting the emirate in sixth place.

Chicago, Shanghai, Sao Paulo, and Bangkok rounded out the top 10 best skylines around the world.

The list ranks cities by the visual impact of their skylines. It is drawn entirely from statistics in Emporis' database, and reflects only completed high-rise buildings.

The calculation does not include TV towers, masts, bridges, or other structures. Each building is assigned points based on its floor count.

The Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat has said that 2014 was the “tallest ever” for skyscraper construction globally, with a record 97 buildings standing 200m tall or more completed during the year.

That beat 2011’s 81 tower completions, and the number, the CTBUH said, includes 11 supertall towers (300m and over).

According to CTBUH records, there are now 935 buildings globally that bust through the 200m ceiling to qualify as skyscrapers with Dubai's Burj Khalifa still the tallest in the world.

Most tall towers completed in 2014 were based in Asia. Of the 97 completed buildings, 74 were centred on the Asian continent, and 58 of those in China alone.
