Professionals involved in the Middle East's burgeoning beauty products sector are set to converge in Dubai for the12th edition of Beautyworld Middle East 2007. The exhibition, will take place at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 20-22, will feature some 950 exhibitors and is set to attract 9,500 trade visitors from about 80 countries.
The Middle East's beauty sector is estimated to be worth about AED 7.71 billion (US$2.1 billion) and is growing at about 12% a year, according to Messe Frankfurt, organiser of Beauty World Middle East.
The region is particularly suitable for players in the beauty industry because it has one of the world's fastest growing populations, rising at around 6% annually, and a high proportion of young people, with more than 60% of the population under the age of 25 years, according to Heather Nix, group exhibitions manager, Messe Frankfurt.
Per capita spending on beauty products in the Gulf states is estimated to be about US$334 a year, which is thought to be one of the highest figures in the world.
"Double digit economic growth rates in most of the GCC countries on the back of higher oil revenues, the increase in the number of five-star hotels with spas in the region and a marked rise in the per capita disposable income have all led the growth of the personal care products market in the region," Nix said.
