New report says 621 rooms opened during Q1 with another 9,400 expected to be added by year-end
About 10,000 new hotel rooms will open in Dubai throughout 2016, according to a new report.
The Dubai Hotel Market Overview prepared by JLL for The Hotel Show Dubai 2016 reveals that 621 new hotel rooms opened in Dubai during the first quarter of the year, with 9,400 rooms expected to be added to the market by the end of the year.
Last month, Dubai hit the 100,000 hotel rooms milestone as the city aims to cement itself as a top 10 global destination in terms of available supply.
"This is an important and exciting time for Dubai's hospitality and leisure industry," said Gary Williams, event director of the dmg events hospitality portfolio including The Hotel Show and The Leisure Show.
"Over the course of the next six months, world-famous brands including W Hotels & Resorts, Hard Rock Hotels, and Nikki Beach are entering the Dubai market for the first time, while two major new theme parks are set to open their gates."
More than 25,000 hospitality industry professionals are set to attend the 17th edition of The Hotel Show Dubai in September.
Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) said earlier this year that it expects occupied room nights in hotels and hotel apartments to reach 36.9 million, representing an 11-12 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to 2018.
It added that the overall room supply in Dubai is expected to reach 138,000 rooms by the end of 2018.
With demand increasing, overall projected occupancy rates until 2018 are expected to be around 77 percent despite growth in capacity, ensuring the emirate remains competitive, Dubai Tourism said. For all the latest travel news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
9,400 rooms to be added in 5 months? How is this even possible? Where did they come up with the figures from?
9400 rooms are based on the projected opening dates of the new hotels which are currently under construction with anticipated opening dates in 2016.
