A charity event hosted by Dubai SME has raised AED1m for the Dress One Million Children campaign

The campaign, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE vice president and prime minister and ruler of Dubai, aims to distribute new clothes to underprivileged children across the world.

The event, held in conjunction with the Emirates Red Crescent, was attended by more than 200 people from the entrepreneurial and SME community who made pledges towards the campaign which ran until today, 28 July (19 Ramadan).

CEO of Dubai SME, Abdul Baset Al Janahi, said: “Our support to the Dress One Million Children campaign is significant in many ways. It underlines the UAE’s leadership as a donor country, and the decision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to increase the number of beneficiaries of the campaign shows the success of the initiative as well of the generosity of the UAE community.”

The campaign was extended after the AED40m target was reached in the early days of Ramadan, meaning more than one million children will be clothed as a result.

Director of the Dubai branch of the Emirates Red Crescent, Mohammed Abdullah Al Zarouni, said: “The campaign has gone beyond all expectations and now we plan to distribute new clothes to children in 46 countries.”

New clothes have already been distributed to children in Syria, Jordan, Uganda, Somalia, Senegal, Iraq, Erbil, Vietnam, Egypt, Yemen, Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Bosnia, Lebanon, and the Philippines.
