Dubai Taxi drivers start getting weekly day off

Move will alleviate workload of drivers, says DTC official

Dubai Taxi drivers start getting weekly day off
Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), a subsidiary of Road and Transport Authority, has started giving a weekly day-off to its taxi drivers.

Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), a subsidiary of Road and Transport Authority, has started giving a weekly day-off to its taxi drivers.

The move is part of the authority’s plan approved in January for improving attitudes of DTC under 22 initiatives that will be implemented up to 2019.

The weekly off system will cover DTC’s airport taxis, Hala taxis, limousine and regular taxis.

Dr Yousuf Al Ali, executive director of Dubai Taxi Foundation, in a press statement, said: “The launch of the weekly taxi drivers' off system comes as part of the company's keenness to alleviate the workload of drivers. The aim is to enhance traffic safety by reducing the number of accidents, resulting from fatigue and exhaustion of drivers.”

However, private companies running taxi services in the emirate are yet to announce any such move.
