Shisha.com sold for $190,000 earlier this year, to a buyer registered in Florida
The web domain DubaiEscorts.com was sold last month for $46,000, according to various online sources.
DN Journal, a website dedicated to web domain industry news, says the web address was sold on February 2 this year, and is ranked number 61 in global sales of web domains this year. Whois Domain Search shows that the website, which is currently live, is registered to an address in the Cayman Islands.
On the same day, Shisha.com was sold for $190,000 and is registered to an address in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Web domain sales can be big business, but can take quite a bit of research in order to land a big pay day, according to veteran domain investor Niko Younts.
“The Dubai market is warming up, slowly. Last month, DubaiLiving.com sold for $8,500 and DubaiEscorts.com sold last week for $46,000,” he said.
“Although the government will eventually block the address from local search, it still underlines the growing demand and value of exact match search query based digital brands that represents huge leadership and monetisation opportunities, are recession proof, and appreciating global assets,” he added.
Web domain sales involving Middle East-based names have attracted big prices. In 2004, the domain Arab.com sold for $225,000, while last year the country code web domain TV.ae was sold for $95,000.
