Eat, play... live

Early impressions - and fast growing nightly crowd - suggest hot new Dubai restaurant Keva is on the hit list.

I have a confession to make. A week after visiting Keva for the first time, I was at a business meeting in Dubai when a colleague asked me if I could help her get a reservation there.

"No problem. I own the place," I replied.

I don't. But the "Keva experience", with its extraordinary service, excellent food and exotic scenery leaves you convinced that you do really own the place - it is probably the kind of restaurant most of us would design if we had the cash.

Dubai has no shortage of high-class restaurants, though in so many ways, Keva manages to stand head and shoulders above the competition. Part of the Lodge complex, around 15-minute drive from Dubai International Airport, it is right next door to the famous Chi nightclub should you want to carry on after eating.

Once you enter Keva, what strikes you is the service. Owners Akash Arora and Rehan Merchant struck gold when they hired Vishal Godya to run the joint. Godya was born to make anyone feel welcome.

Inside the restaurant is surrounded by hand-picked relics and souvenirs from Asia and Europe.

From the classical and modern influences of European cuisine to exotic delights of Asian kitchens, Keva certainly has everything - not to mention a seriously impressive cellar.

With a resident DJ, there is no doubting Keva's motto of "Eat Play Lounge".

You can do all three.

For the super-rich or business leaders looking for a quiet chat, there are a few private, totally sealed off parts to the restaurant - though you may need to book several weeks in advance to secure one of these.

Keva is new in Dubai's restaurant scene, and judging by the emirate's history, new venues are either a hit or a miss within the first few months of opening - and there is no going back.

Early impressions - and the fast growing nightly crowd - suggest Keva is on the hit list.

Many new promotions are planned, so now is the time to beat the crowd.
