Ecocell heats up battery segment

Ecocell, a UAE based producer of batteries and energy-saving light bulbs, is planning an aggressive expansion strategy for the Middle East and beyond in its bid to become an international brand.

Ecocell, a UAE based producer of batteries and energy-saving light bulbs, is planning an aggressive expansion strategy for the Middle East and beyond in its bid to become an international brand.

The company, which started its operations in the Middle East in 2004, intends to make its products available beyond its GCC stronghold, in Middle East markets including Egypt, Syria, Jordan and CIS countries.

"We are targeting somewhere around 20% to 25% growth in the next three to four years," Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, general manager, Ecocell told Retail News Middle East. "We have grown almost 100% compared to 2006. In most of the countries we have already crossed our figures of last year.

"Obviously one of the reasons for this extensive growth has been the introduction of various new packs in the existing lines and also in the range of rechargeables - which were launched the end of 2006," he added.

"Our objective is to make Ecocell a global brand in the next five years time."
