Decision on UAE schools reopening for 2020/21 academic year 'still under review'

Education Ministry has said any decision will be based on health situation and precautionary measures

Distance learning for students across the UAE may be extended into the next academic year, according to the Ministry of Education.

The ministry confirmed that remote learning, which has been in operation since the end of March, will continue “for all education levels” through to the end of the current academic year.

In a statement on news agency WAM it added that any decision surrounding the academic year 2020/2021, “is still under review” and will be taken “based on the health situation and precautionary measures”.

The move to employ distance learning for all students was taken as part of preventive and precautionary measures aimed at containing the spread of coronavirus.

Around the country, a number of education providers have announced a reduction in fees to ease the burden on parents during the pandemic.
