Emirates Internet and Multimedia (EIM) has announced that new customers wishing to subscribe to the UAE’s internet dial-up service will be allowed to register for free until the 3rd of September.By waiving the 100 Dirhams registration charge, EIM, the ISP business unit of Etisalat, aims to increase the country’s lead of the highest number of internet users in the Middle East region. “Dial-up is the most common form of internet access for the home user and this is a great opportunity for those who have been thinking about connecting to the internet, but have not yet taken that initial step to register,” said Maroua Naim, general manager, EIM. Dial-up internet access allows customers to get online through a standard telephone line, computer and V.90 modem. With speeds of 56kbps, the dial-up package is the most basic of access methods and is often considered as the first step onto the internet for home users and small businesses. “The higher the number of users that log onto the net, the more pervasive important initiatives including e-government and internet in Schools will become,” added Naim. EIM has over 1,000,000 internet users and dial-up is by far the most popular of its services with 300,000 subscribers.
